About this test
The BRCA1 gene plays a key role in the repair of DNA damage. Inherited pathogenic variants of this gene significantly increase the risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer (autosomal dominant inheritance).
Some changes in the BRCA1 gene are large deletions or duplications spanning whole exons, which are not detected by standard NGS sequencing. In this test we use MLPA technology to examine the BRCA1 gene for such large deletions and duplications — as a complement to NGS analysis.
